Keys to a successful rebuilding

Then I said to them, "You see the trouble we are in: Jerusalem lies in ruins, and its gates have been burned with fire. Come, let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, and we will no longer be in disgrace."Nehemiah 2:17 (NIV)

The book of Nehemiah teaches us a lot about successfully rebuilding after suffering a defeat in life. Adversities are common occurrences which no one is immune to it but not everyone has been able to rebound after going through devastation. Historically though, we have read about some rebuilding that offers a more glorious entity in place of the one destroyed. Now rebuilding is not an assignment that you commenced anyhow. This is where many have failed and have even regressed further in life because enthusiasm alone will not be enough to carry the process through. Nehemiah left a legacy of rebuilding the broken walls of Jerusalem in just fifty two day by applying some basic laws.

One of the laws that made Nehemiah a success story today is that of purpose. He told the leaders of the remnants of Jerusalem …come, let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem and we will no longer be in disgrace. His intension for coming back from exile to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem was outside of his personal gain. He was already comfortable in capital city of Sushan residing in the palace; still his heart's desire was so that the sepulcher of his forefathers would not remain in ruins (Neh. 2:3-5). So long the purpose is right; the rebuilding is starting on a progressive route, standing a better chance of being successful. What is the purpose for rebuilding that broken marriage; career; business or ministry? If it is not outside of your self-interest, it might not attract the necessary provision for rebuilding. Note that the right purpose magnetizes the needed provisions.

In addition to purpose, passion is also needed. Most often the root cause of desolation is still very alive threatening the rebuilding and as with everything else in this fallen world of ours, there are those gaining satisfaction from your brokenness. To them your cries of sorrow is their drumbeat of celebrations and so would do whatsoever they can to discourage you and stop the work. Passion on your own end becomes necessary so that the efforts of these dream crushers would not prevail over you. Nehemiah had purpose but Sanballat and Tobias were very much present to see that the purpose never materialized. Passion fueled Nehemiah, empowering him to endure hardness until finally the sweet victory of a rebuilt wall stood as a testimony of what God can do through a man that is determined.

Child of God, regardless of the area of your life that have seen devastation, be it financial, marital, family, ministry and so on, be assured rebuilding is very possible but you need to be purposeful and passionate about what you have set your mind to do. Success and victory yours in Jesus mighty name.
